The Good Oil and The Bad Oil

The practice of massaging a new born is being passed on from generations. “It will make your brother healthy and strong”, my Dadi used to tell me while she smeared my brother’s body with lukewarm sesame oil. She would carefully wring his hands and slither her hands over his back.

"When you give your baby a massage, you're actually stimulating her central nervous system," explains Tiffany Field, PhD, director of the Touch Research Institute at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. "That sets off a chain reaction: It makes her brain produce more serotonin, a feel-good chemical, and less cortisol, a hormone that's secreted in response to stress. As a result, your baby's heart rate and breathing slow down, and she becomes more relaxed."

In the age of corruption and adulteration; many anti-social elements are manufacturing adulterated and chemical based or synthetic baby oils. Even the well known brands manufacture baby oils which claim to use ‘good’ chemicals. These may be better than the adulterated oils but the risk of a side-effect always remains. The manufacturers maintain that they use 100% mineral oil but do not reveal that mineral oil is 100% chemical; it covers the skin like a plastic wrap and hinders its ability to breathe thereby causing the skin to age prematurely. The fragrances that the baby oils use are also chemicals. If the baby has a small cut or an infection on the body, these chemicals might aggravate the infection.

Ayurveda which literally means ‘the science of life’ - teaches us the use of natural sources for each and every ailment without any side-effects. Ayurveda based oils help in keeping the skin soft and moisturised. It allows the baby to sleep peacefully. The baby is always in a sleeping position; massaging will get him rid of the aches. It will help in increasing his weight and muscle growth.

I recollect my Dadi telling me with a frown on her face, “It is so hard to find pure and refined oils now; when you were small we had small oil factory in the village. I massaged you only with that oil and see how healthy you are now”, the frown on her face changed to a smile which went from one eye to another as she completed her sentence.

I assured her that there are still some manufacturers that produce the oil that you used to massage me. They make it even better by using the latest developments in the field of Science and Ayurveda. Dabur is the world's largest Ayurvedic and Natural Health Care manufacturers. Dabur Lal Tail is an Ayurvedic Baby massage oil made from time tested ayurvedic ingredients which has many proven benefits for the Baby. Its massage helps in strengthening baby's bones and muscles and is proven safe and effective for better overall physical growth of babies. Clinical Research further proved the positive effects of Dabur Lal Tail massage in inducing better sleeping pattern in Neonates and Infants, which is very important for a baby’s development.

Work From Home and The Boss

It would not be wrong to say that Work from home is the new buzzword in the town. Most of us in the IT sector are doing this and yes, it's quite comfortable. Especially for people who travel hours and hours in crowded public transport systems smelling fish and co-passengers' armpits. No, It's not hyperbole - its a fact. Ok! At least in Mumbai, IT IS A FACT. The local train travel in summer becomes pathetic. The workplace is all heavenly but the travel is hell. By the time you reach office, the shirt tucked in is out in the open. The nicely ironed trousers look no more like they used to, two hours ago. Nicely polished black leather shoes are full of dust. You look at them pathetically and rub behind your trousers. Messed up and not ready to work is the mental state when you swipe into the office. And all this trouble just to reach a place which you don't like. Haha! That's life buddy. But the same life fills your pockets on the last day of every month. Work

Realization (A Story)

The clock was ticking at 10 in the night. Cool breeze flowed in as the bus glided on the roads of Mumbai. There were many sounds happening- honking vehicles- murmuring commuters but Shishir was in his own world with his earphones on. The bus was about to reach Azaad Maidan where he had to get down. Boom! Shishir heard a loud sound and before he could interpret anything out of that sound, he found himself lying on the road. He could see a dozen people dead scattered around him. There was smoke all over the place. The bus he was travelling was reduced to scraps . It was a bomb blast- Shishir  realized . People gathered near the blast spot and started carrying victims to a nearby hospital. A man came to Shishir to pick him up. Shishir told him that he was fine and the man should help other victims instead.  The man didn’t listen to Shishir and started to lift him up. Shishir was stunned to see that the man lifted up his body but Shishir was still lying on the road. Shishir c

The Mumbai Local

The Mumbai Local           Lacs of Mumbaikars travel by the local train everyday. Mumbai local is called the Lifeline of the city. The over-crowded trains witness many stories, quarrels, debates, discussions, games, songs and  bhajans (a proper bhajan with dholak and cymbals!). They say, "Don't be a part of the crowd, lead the crowd." This does not apply in the Mumbai local. You have to be, infact you are a part of the crowd when you travel through the over-crowded trains. I got a chance to become a part of this crowd when I joined college. I found out some rules that came into being as the crowded trains went on becoming over-crowded. There are two three-seater benches facing each other between which generally three to four passengers stand. The first person from the window should be given the first priority to be seated if anyone gets up from those two benches. Fourth seat is allowed on the three-seater benches. Unless nobody is standing between the bench
